Every Dollar Makes a Huge Difference

Your tax-deductible contribution is an investment in our work to curtail illicit financial flows (IFFs) out of developing countries as a way to improve economies and lives across the globe. Every dollar you donate will help sustain GFI’s ground-breaking research, highly-effective advocacy, valuable guidance to policymakers, dissemination of our research in the media, and collaboration with scores of other organizations working to reduce the corrosive impact of illicit flows on the globe’s poorest citizens.

By donating to Global Financial Integrity you will be supporting an organization which has a track record of innovation and impact in the area of illicit flows. Indeed, GFI was the first group to publish estimates of illicit flows for all 150 developing and emerging market economies which established the IFF issue among development policy makers. We were the first to approach the International Financial Institutions to address the problem and we were the first to develop a cloud-based trade risk-assessment tool specifically designed to help developing country governments detect trade misinvoicing – a primary method of tax evasion and the movement of illicit funds.

Moreover, our work has resulted in significant gains in the fight against illicit flows. These achievements include the establishment of the UNECA’s High Level Panel on Illicit Financial Flows from Africa headed by former South African President Thabo Mbeki after a GFI report highlighted the severity of IFF issue on the continent. Additionally, after a GFI report on illicit flows in 2013 the UN’s High Level Panel on Post-2015 Development Agenda made curtailing IFFs an explicit goal of the anti-poverty agenda. And, following a sustained high-level advocacy push by GFI and Jubilee USA Network the United Nations called for the global community to work to “substantially reduce” illicit flows in the Sustainable Development Goals which were adopted in 2015.

Based on the work of GFI and its many partners every major development organization – from the World Bank to the OECD and many others – has called for concerted actions to address the illicit flows problem. With your support GFI can continue this value work well into the future.
